Adios Vinotinto Until Later

ADIOS VINOTINTO FOR NOW

“Adios” is Spanish for see you later. 7-VII-2007 was supposed to be a lucky day for humanity yet it was terrible for Vinotinto en Roberto.

Roberto was supporting Vinotinto because he lived in Venezuela during the 1970’s only to end up writing from a coffee shop that broadcasted the game. Roberto had some problems with certain family members who turned off the TV Set. In anger, Roberto stormed out of his house and to a coffee shop until the game ended. Roberto did not even take the mobile phone.

It did not help much that Uruguay scored the first goal that Roberto’s anger went into full force. Instead of a coffee, he asked for a full course meal of a plate of rice and a vanilla milk shake. After Venezuela’s equalizer, Roberto felt relieved until the second, third, and forth goal of Uruguay that put Roberto in full throttle anger that his veins were popping out of his head and neck.

Vinotinto did what it could do in the case of playing in a wet stadium against a powerful team in Uruguay. Vinotinto did everything in spite of the referees. The referees appeared to have been using the same shirts that Chelsea inaugurated for its out game. At least the referees were comic reliefs as well as incompetent.

The TV Announcer talked about the people being nervous for Vinotinto only to have the camera focused on a sleeping spectator on the Venezuelan Side and another chewing gum and talking on her mobile phone. What is wrong with these people? Why such a relaxed attitude towards Vinotinto.

It should be remembered that one of the TV Announcers doing the Copa America 2007 was killed in an automobile accident and was replaced by someone who [FORGIVE ME GOD BECAUSE I HATE IT] is an expert in astrology, drama, and perfume. I heard this announcer and IT WAS TORTURE AND A DENIAL FO MY HUMAN RIGHTS. I HATE IT WHEN A TV OR RADIO STATION BRINGS IN AN ANNOUNCER WHO DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SPORTS.

The only reason that can be taken into account is that Venezuela like the Caribbean and the USA are predominantly baseball countries. Vinotinto did not receive any publicity until RCTV [A Station closed by the Chavez Government] did a special about Vinotinto. Afterwards, people started loving Vinotinto EVEN THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER SEEN A FOOTBALL GAME.

Vinotinto may have lost but it reached the semifinals and played with dignity. Venezuela is also a country with the potential for football. I have faith in Vinotinto and in the universality of football.

VENEZUELA 1-4 URUGUAY
